ジャングルの深く、川のほとりの丘に一人座って、広い広い大地と空を眺めていた。
川の対岸の森の中から象が現れ、そして、ゆくっりと川を渡る。
西に傾く太陽が、象の歩く水の波紋に反射していた。
Deep in the jungle, I sat alone on a hill on the banks of the river, front of view was big big land and sky.
An elephant came from the woods on the other side of the river and slowly crosses the river.
The westward sun was reflected by the ripples of the elephant's walking water.
象の群れが、川をこちら側へ渡り家路に帰るようで、丁度その通り道に座っていたようです。
大きな体が、重さのある足音と共にすぐ横を通り過ぎていく。
その目は、大きくて、深い野生の感情が、私の中にふわっと届いた気がした。
A group of elephants seemed to cross the river to this side and return home, I was sitting on that path.
A large body passes by with heavy footsteps.
The eyes felt like a big, deep wild feeling bought to in my heart.
一匹の象が私のすぐ目の前までやってきた。
見上げていた象の顔が、ぐっと下がって、鼻を地面にぐっと押し付けて、額の辺りを私の手の前に持ってきて、下から見つめてきた。
その額を撫でたら、その目が子供のように輝いたように思えた。
目の前をぐるっと一周すると、もう一度、私の目の前に顔を近づけて、やがて歩いて行った。
An elephant came right in front of me.
The elephant's face, looking up, went down, squeezing his nose against the ground, bringing his forehead in front of me and staring from below.
When I stroked the forehead, my eyes seemed to shine like a child.
I went around in front of him, and once again, I brought my face close to my eyes and walked.
